Concordia 0, Rochester 0
(September 29, 2008 - Ann Arbor, Mich) -- The Concordia men's soccer team ended a two-year losing streak by battling the Warriors from Rochester College to a 0-0 tie. Ironically, the last time that a game didn't end in a loss for the Cardinals was against this same team in 2006 when they played to a 2-2 tie. That tie snapped a 29-game losing streak for Concordia.
The second half also provided several quality scoring chances for the Cardinals. The first coming at the 35:45 mark of the second half on a pass from Ali Badra (So.-Niamey, Niger) to the streaking Yonathan Zeleke (Fr.- Lansing, Mich). Unfortunately for the Cardinals, Rochester keeper Dave Ristich was at the right place at the right time to smother the opportunity, as he did several times in the first half to preserve the tie.
The final solid scoring chance came off the foot of Cardinal junior Erik Schultz (Belleville, Mich) with just under 18 minutes to go in the contest. Once again, Ristich was up to the challenge in making the save.
Ristich was solid stopping 12 shots for the game, while Concordia's goalkeeper, Brian Kressbach (Jr. - Clinton Township, Mich) collected four saves.
Concordia will look to build on their solid performance when they travel to Grand Rapids on Wednesday to face Cornerstone. The Golden Eagles (4-5, 2-2) are coming of a 2-1 loss to Aquinas over the weekend and currently stand in fourth place in the conference.
