(September 27, 2008 - Canton, Mich.) -- The Concordia golf team is beginning to make the necessary strides for a program trying to establish itself in the very competitive WHAC conference. First year coach Matt Distelrath is seeing his team close the gap between itself and the field each outing and Saturday was no exception as the team finished with their best combined score of the year at 345. Jacob Edwards (Fr.- Ypsilanti, Mich.), who was unable to finish Friday at the third WHAC Jamboree, lead the Cardinal effort with a round of 83, besting Friday's team leader Bill Dorow (Sr. - Waterloo, NY), by two strokes.

Davenport continued to show their overall team strength as they won their fourth WHAC event of the season as the Panthers shot a team total of 291, beating strong efforts by Madonna (297) and Aquinas (298).

Dan Szatowski of Aquinas picked up the individual honor as he shot a three-under 69 to squeek by TJ Witt of Siena Heights by two strokes as the top two were the only golfers to shoot under par on the day.

Following behind Edwards and Dorow were Kyle Barlow (Jr. - Howell, Mich.), who shot an 88, and Tyler Schlitzkus (Fr.- Gladwin, Mich.), who finished the day one stroke behind Barlow at 89.

The rest of the Cardinal field was Brad Girling (Fr. - Warren, Mich.) who shot a 97 and Dan Mendenhall (Sr. - Traverse City, Mich.) with a 98.

For the women, Kylie Golden finished her day with a 108 while Madonna won the team award with a 364 total on the day. The Crusaders were lead by Chelsea Bathurst, whose seven-over 79 earned her a five-stroke victory of Davenport's Caitlin Duval.

The fall golf season for the Cardinals features only two more conference jamborees as the team gets back on the links on Oct. 3 at Cornerstone followed by the finale at Aquinas on Oct. 8.
