After a slow start, Madonna (4-2, 2-0) got on the scoreboard with a soft floater by freshman forward Diana Brda (14:56) that sailed over the head of Cardinal keeper Kelly Wurzell (Sr - Lambertville, MI). For Wurzell, it was the first goal allowed this season.
The Cardinals responded four minutes later when Abby Lorion (So. - Plymouth, MI) knocked in a rebound from a shot by teammate Amy Zuccarell (Jr. - Ottawa Lake, MI). However, the tie was short-lived due to an offensive explosion by Madonna. The Crusaders rallied for two goals in less than 30 seconds to take a 3-1 lead. Jessica Austin scored her fourth goal of the season (18:55) on an assist by teammate Brda. Senior Dina Allie fired an unassisted shot past Wurzell just 20 seconds later.
The Crusader's Austin finished off the scoring with her fifth goal of the season with six minutes to play in the first half.
The second half proved to be a defensive battle with neither team scoring on the six total shots on goal. Madonna goalkeeper Brittany Warner made three saves before being replaced in the second half by Macie Carevic. Wurzell went the distance for the Cardinals adding nine saves on 13 shots on goal.
Concordia will look for their first conference win when they travel to Indiana Tech (2-4, 0-2) for a noon game on Saturday.
