Cardinals Move to 2-0 after Another Impressive Win over Rochester

(September 8, 2008 - Rochester, Mich.) -- Playing Rochester College for the second time in just over a week, the Cardinals women's soccer team remained unbeaten on the season after beating the Warriors 4-0. Concordia won the previous matchup at Rummel Field last Sunday 6-0 to open the 2008 campaign.

Lauren Harris (So. - Ypsilanti, MI) scored her third goal of the season five minutes into the game. This would prove to be the only scoring for either team in the opening half.

The visiting team from Ann Arbor eventually hit their scoring stride with three goals in the second half. Amy Zuccarell (Jr. - Ottawa Lake, MI) scored the first goal 53 minutes into the game. Abby Lorion (So. - Plymouth, MI) and freshman Megan Boulard put the game away each scoring goals with less than five minutes remaining. Rachel Vandermade, Zuccarell, and Marie Negre-Collas assisted on the three second-half goals.

Cardinal's goalkeeper Kelly Wurzell (Sr. - Lambertville, MI) remained steady in goal collecting her second shutout of the season in as many games. Wurzell now has 15 career shutouts in net for Concordia.

On Saturday, the Cardinals posted a 1-0 victory in a scrimmage against the visiting club team from the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Sophomore Abby Lorion (Plymouth, MI) scored the lone goal of the game.

Concordia will travel to Grand Rapids for their conference opener against Davenport (0-2) at noon on September 13. The Cardinal men's team will open their season against Davenport in the second game of the doubleheader.
