Sophomore Gwendolyn VanDerworp
(September 6, 2008 - Northville, Mich.) -- A trio of runners finished with their best times of the season Saturday afternoon in Northville at the Running Fit/Detroit Titan Invitational. With a crowded field of 128 runners, many of the Division I and Division II levels, the Cardinal runners did well during the 5K race over hilly terrain with sharp turns, loose dirt and hard footing.
Gwendolyn VanDerworp (So. - Milford, Mich.) crossed first for the team as she ended with a time of 21:49, which left her in 94th place, four minutes and 30 seconds off the pace of the race winner: Nicole Edwards of Michigan who set a course record at 17:19.
Cree Thompson (Fr. - Detroit, Mich.) finished in 107th with her time of 22:52 while fellow rookie runner Sarah Card (Fr. - Cadillac, Mich.) crossed the line at 25:37 good for 120th.
The cross country program will be back in action next Saturday afternoon when they travel south to the Mel Brodt Invitational hosted by Bowling Green University. The women's race begins at 2:00 p.m.
