Freshman Laura Brabaw was Named Honorable Mention All Conference
(April 29, 2008 - Grand Rapids, Mich.) -- Four Concordia University softball players were honored by the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference Tuesday as the season ending softball awards were announced. Freshmen Laura Brabaw (Paris, MI) and Katy Gallan (Lasalle, MI) were named to the honorable mention all-conference team while Kristine Dolunt (Fr. Allen Park, MI) was named to the champions of character team and Terra Russell (Sr. Garden City, MI) was named to the all-academic team.
Brabaw and Gallan both had strong freshman seasons for the Cardinals. Brabaw was a mainstay on the mound throughout the season and showed signs of great things to come. Gallan was without question the catalyst for the Cardinals offense at the top of the order and Gallan also led the conference in stolen bases for much of the season. One of the highlights for Gallan came last week against Michigan Dearborn when she knocked in 5 runs in game two of the doubleheader.
Another Cardinal freshman, Kristine Dolunt, was honored by being named to the WHAC champions of character team. The members of this team were chosen by conference coaches as they have shown great integrity and sportsmanship on and off the field. Head coach Robin Santiago was also honored by her peers by being named conference coach of character.
Finally Cardinal senior Tara Russell was named to the All-Academic team for her achievements in the classroom. Russell, a criminal justice major, was also named to the all-academic team last season. The complete release can be read at:
