With only two runners in a field of 74 it was quality rather than quantity that paced the Concordia women's cross country team on Saturday afternoon at the Wisconsin Lutheran Invitational in West Allis, Wisconsin.

(Sept. 30, 2006 - West Allis, Wisc.) -- The Concordia women's cross country team could only field two runners for Saturday's event at Wisconsin Lutheran, but those two runners did very well as both nearly finished in the top ten in a field of 74 runners.

Becky Wartick finished less than a minute off the pace as she crossed the line at 26:49.32, which gave the sophomore an eighth place finish. Right behind her was freshman Nicole Barnaby who time of 27:07.91 was good enough to finish 12th in the event.

Despite having only two runners, the Cardinals finished in 10th place out of 11 teams Saturday afternoon as they bested Silver Lake College and their two entries.

Kate Abbott of Finlandia University won the event with a time of 25:50.35 in the 6k run. Host Wisconsin Lutheran won the women's portion of the event as they were lead by Beth Windschitl whose time of 26:00.23 earned her a second place finish. The Warriors had two other runners finish in the top ten to help their cause.

The women will travel to Big Rapids Friday morning to participate in the Michigan Intercollegiate Invitational.
