(March 24, 2008 - Ann Arbor, Mich.) -- With weather forcing the cancellation of most games in the area, the fact that the Concordia baseball team was able to play a pair of games last week allowed the team to sweep the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference awards for the second straight week. The WHAC announced that Justin Gauthier (Sr. - Muskegon, Mich.) was named the Pitcher of the Week while Alex Hoover (Sr. - Shelbyville, Mich.) was named the Player of the Week.

Gauthier went the distance in a 9-2 win over Cedarville in the nightcap of a sweep over the Yellow Jackets in Xenia, Ohio. The right-hander scattered seven hits allowing just a pair of runs in the win. It is the first time in program history that two pitchers earned the distinction in back-to-back weeks.

Hoover went 3-for-6 during the doubleheader with a home run and five RBI - a quartet coming off a grand slam that helped propel Concordia to the 9-2 win in the second game against Cedarville. In the first game, Hoover picked up his 100th hit in his career as he moved into the top ten all-time as a Cardinal for singles (72), at-bats (333), hits (102) and runs scored (57).

Concordia (9-1) is currently enjoying the best start ever in the first 10 games of the season. The Cardinals are looking to return to the field this week weather permitting. Concordia has games scheduled against Urbana on Wednesday afternoon in Ann Arbor and a pair of games at Oakland University on Thursday. With both dates being possibly cancelled due to weather, the Cardinals are entertaining plans to travel back to Xenia, Ohio for the two days to play two opponents for a total of three games.
