The Concordia men's golf team completed their fall season at the final two Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Jamborees (#4 and #5). Both Jamborees took place in Ohio with Lourdes University hosting the 4th WHAC Jamboree at the Sylvania Country Club in Sylvania, OH. The University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) hosted WHAC Jamboree #5 on Tuesday, October 10th at the Hidden Creek Golf Club in Lima, OH. Concordia finished 10th at both jamborees with the team recording a fall season low score of 342 on Tuesday.
The Cardinals were led by Matt Miller (JR/Romulus, MI) and Kory Lear in the 5th jamboree as both individuals recorded a low score of 84. This comes a day after in which Lear shot a 99 and Miller with an 87. Chase McKay (JR/New Boston, MI) was consistent both days as well with an 85 on Tuesday and an 88 in the 4th jamboree. Devyn Miller (SO) paced the Cardinals on Monday with an 87 at the Sylvania Country Club and recorded an 89 the following day. Spencer Figuracion (FR) was the other contributing team member for the Cardinals posting scores of 97 and 92.
Despite a weather delay due to fog on Tuesday in Lima, Ohio, the course cleared up nicely and presented favorable conditions for the competitive field. The jamboree host, University of Northwestern Ohio exploded for WHAC record with an impressive -19 under sweeping the three top individuals low honors. Reece Blair of UNOH won both individual championships with scores of 69 and 65.
With the loss of two talented seniors, Brayden Bennett and Andrew Koerkel from last year's team, Head Coach Tim Strickland's goal this fall was to build confidence and experience. The returners assumed larger roles while newcomers Chase McKay and Spencer Figuracion were called upon to make an impact immediately. Coach Strickland will look to build upon the fundamental foundation laid this fall as the team heads into spring competitions.
