(Adrian, MI) The women's bowling team competed in the first Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference Jamboree on Saturday at Lenawee Lanes in Adrian, Michigan and received top honors. The team placed first overall with an average of 920.28 as Indiana Tech finished a close second with 917. Malloree Ambs (SR/Jackson, MI) and Jessica Pate (JR/Westland, MI) placed 1st and 2nd overall to sweep top honors for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals looked to improve on last year's success as the team finished the season tied for 2nd with Aquinas College in the conference standings. After the final WHAC Jamboree last year, both teams had finished with 45 points behind Lawrence Tech (52). With an experienced group led by Ambs and Pate, the Cardinals were prepared to compete at the top right from the start.
Ambs was the only participant to bowl every game over 200 and finished with an average of 208.25. Ambs got stronger as the event went on with her third (211) and fourth (213) rounds being the highest of the day. Pate hovered right around the 200 mark all day with her first (203) and second (209) rounds marking her highest of the day.
Other Cardinal bowlers contributing to the team's impressive performance included Kylie Hornsby (SR/Walled Lake, MI) who bowled a 214 in the third round. Hornsby averaged 180.75 good enough for 13th overall. Kalee Johnson (FR/Davison, MI), Makayla Lancioni (FR/New Hudson, MI), Elizabeth Ireland (SR/Washington Township, MI), Serena Belanger (SR/Woodhaven, MI), and Olivia Hoeskema all placed to complete the Cardinals 1st place performance.
Coach Bell was proud of the team's effort."Malloree and Jessica bowled extremely well today and it's great to have them finish 1 and 2. We have a deeper and well rounded team this year with a lof of veterans. That really showed today and look forward to building off of this moving forward."
The Cardinals will resume competition at UPIKE Orange and Black Classic October 14th and 15th at the Beaver Vu-Lanes in Beavercreek, Ohio. The event will once again feature quality teams from all over the Midwest. After a couple weeks off the Cardinals will return to WHAC action with the 2nd WHAC Jamboree on November 11th in Jackson, MI at Airport Lanes.
