(Adrian, MI) After two tune-up competitions, the men's bowling team competed in the first Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Jamboree of the 17-18 season. The Cardinals were set to improve on last year's fourth place finish and knew the first step would be in Adrian, MI. Siena Heights University hosted the jamboree at Lenawee Lanes. An intense day of bowling saw Lawrence Tech come away with total score of 7109. Indiana Tech and Concordia were closely behind with scores of 6968 (2nd) and 6673 (3rd) respectively.
Bowling in his first WHAC Jamboree of his young Cardinal career Alex Ouellette (JR/Linden, MI) wasted no time making his mark atop the leaderboard. The transfer from Delta Community College led the Cardinals with a 215.25 average and placed 3rd overall. Kyle McGrath from Lawrence Tech University narrowly received high honors with a 217.25 average. Ouellette's high score of the day came in the 2nd round when he bowled a 252. It was the 2nd highest score of the day.
Jackson Davis (FR/Tornado, WV) and Zachary Hazel (JR/Chelsea, MI) supported Ouellette's efforts with solid performances of their own. Jackson bowled a 182.25 average with a high score of 198 good enough for 23rd overall. Hazel was right behind Jackson with a 181.25 average and a 24th place finish. After bowling a 141 in the first round, Hazel quickly responded with high scores of 200 and 211 in rounds three and four. Matthew Miller (JR/Woodhaven, MI) bowled in three of the four rounds with a high score of 223 in the 1st round.
Head Coach Doug Spicer thought the team competed well throughout the day and made adjustments where necessary. "The WHAC Jamboree's always bring out the best in everyone. It was good to see where we match up with the rest of the conference this early in the season. It will be another competitive year in the WHAC.
The Cardinals will resume competition at UPIKE Orange and Black Classic October 14th and 15th at the Beaver Vu-Lanes in Beavercreek, Ohio. The event will once again feature quality teams from all over the Midwest. After a couple weeks off the Cardinals will return to WHAC action with the 2nd WHAC Jamboree on November 11th in Jackson, MI at Airport Lanes.
