(October 22, 2007 - Rochester Hills, Mich.) -- The Concordia Men's Soccer team had one final chance to win their first game of the season when they took on Rochester College on Monday. Rochester scored two goals in the first half and the Cards were unable to answer with a goal of their own and they fell by a final score of 3-0.
The 2007 season for the Concordia Cardinals (0-16) featured a young squad trying to find their way under new head coach Martin Schroeder. At times the young squad showed flashes of great potential and dropped several close games in the tough Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.
Monday at Rochester the Cards simply did not capitalize on any of their seven shots while the Warriors put the ball in the net three times. Rochester took a 2-0 lead into halftime and added a second half goal on a penalty kick for the 3-0 final score. The Cards competed with the tough Rochester (8-6-7) side who recently played NCAA Division II opponent Northwood to a draw.
Monday was the final game for Cardinal senior Joe Ventimiglia (Macomb, MI). Ventimiglia performed strongly in his final season in a Concordia uniform as he lead the Cards in goals and points and shared the team lead in assists.
The Cards will miss Ventimiglia but he was the only senior on this year's squad which is good sign for the future. Several young Cardinals were fixtures on the field this season and hopefully next fall the Cardinals will continue their improvement and be a challenge to play against for all of their opponents.
