(Ann Arbor, MI) The Concordia women's tennis team began their fourth season of competition with a trio of away matches in Ohio. The Cardinals were led by a core group of returners and brought home two wins to begin their fall season.
The Lady Cardinals started in Defiance, Ohio where they faced off against the Polar Bears of Ohio Northern University. The Polar Bears proved to be a tough opponent as they only allowed 10 sets to the Cardinals throughout the match.
Next up was the Defiance College Yellow Jackets on their home courts. The Cardinals started off strong, picking up two of the doubles matches thanks to the pairings of Mackenzie Devine (SR/Rochester Hills, MI) and Kaylee Tucker (JR/Garden City, MI), and Amy Dalian (JR/Saline, MI) and Taylor Kahlstorf (SO/Munising, MI). Concordia would secure the victory with four singles wins including Mackenzie Devine, and first year players Taylor Kahlstorf, Tina Perumalla (FR/Ypsilanti, MI), and Charity Felton (FR/Fort Wayne, IN) notching their first wins.
To cap off their opening week, the women's team traveled to Mount Saint Joseph University in Cincinnati, Ohio. Concordia won in convincing fashion, with Kayla Verhelle (SO/Clinton Township, MI), Charity Felton, Kaylee Tucker, and Mackenzie Devine all earning victories in doubles and singles. Tina Perumalla finished off the match, defeating the Lions in her singles matchup to make the final score 7-2, and putting the Cardinals at 2-1 on the season.
The Cardinals next match will be at their home venue of Chippewa Tennis Club in Ypsilanti, MI. The Cardinals will host the Comets of Olivet College. Coach Boettcher and his team seek revenge as the Comets narrowly defeated the Cardinals last year 4-5. The match is scheduled to start at Noon and will feature a simultaneous match with the men's teams as well.
