The men's soccer team will travel to River Forest, IL this weekend to compete in the first official Concordia Invitational Soccer Tournament (CIST). Concordia-Chicago will host this year's tournament which will include the Concordia-Wisconsin (CUW), Concordia-Nebraska (CUNE), and Concordia-Ann Arbor (CUAA). The tournament stems from the basketball CIT which is entering its 67th year and is the second longest running tournament in the country behind the National Invitation Tournament (NIT).
Concordia University-Ann Arbor Cardinals
2016-17 Record: 8-10
2017-18 Record: 1-0
The Cardinals will rely on a core group of returners to build upon the foundation that was established last year. Along with returners, Head Coach Erik Schultz has brought in a strong group of players for the 2017-18 campaign and will be looking for them make an immediate impact. Concordia will take the field for the first time since shutting out Indiana University-East 3-0 in their season opener on August 26th. Their most recent game against Grace Bible College was postponed due to inclement weather.
The Cardinals will face off against Concordia-Wisconsin in the first game this weekend on Friday, Sept. 1st. CUAA will look to reverse their fortune from their previous meeting with CUW when the Falcons came out on top by a score of 3-0 in 2015.
Concordia University-Wisconsin Falcons
2016-17 Record: 13-5
2017-18 Record: 0-0
After a solid 2016 season, the Falcons were tabbed 3rd in their preseason conference poll after receiving 2 first place votes. CUW won their conference title in 2015 and have a strong core of returners that can get them back to the top spot in 2017.
The matchup between CUW and CUAA will mark the first game of the season for the Falcons.
Concordia University-Chicago Cougars
2016-17 Record: 3-13
2017-18 Record: 0-0
Concordia-Chicago comes into the 2017 season with a fresh start and a new face at the helm of the Cougars. 1st year Head Coach Michael Arango took over the CUC men's soccer program and will look to improve upon a 11th place NACC finish last year. They will be relying heavily on the 15 returners to give them the boost they need.
Concordia-Chicago will host Concordia-Nebraska in the first round of CIST games before facing CUAA on day two.
Concordia University-Nebraska Bulldogs
2016-17 Record: 11-7-2
2017-18 Record: 2-0
The Concordia-Nebraska Bulldogs come into the weekend riding a 2 game win streak after beating Sterling College 3-2 and York College 2-0 to open up their season. The Bulldogs are looking to take their 2017 campaign a step further after a runner up finish in the 2016 conference tournament.
CUAA will not face off against Concordia-Nebraska in this year's tournament as they play Concordia-Chicago on Day 1 and Concordia-Wisconsin on Day 2
