(Ann Arbor, MI) CUAA's recently named Head Softball Coach Hailey Cavanagh has announced the addition of two additions to her coaching staff for the 2017-2018 season. Amy Trionfi and Mikayla Hilton have recently finished successful playing careers and will now begin their coaching careers on Cavanagh's staff.
"I am excited to add Amy and Mikayla to our program," said Cavanagh. "Amy had a successful career at CUAA, and it's exciting to bring her back in a new role for the Cardinals. Mikayla was a tremendous player and had a really nice career at Lakeland as well. Her passion is evident and it's exactly why I knew she would be a perfect addition for our program here at CUAA."
Trionfi recently completed her illustrious softball career as one of the most successful Cardinals in the program's history. Trionfi became the all-time leader in career hits during her senior year when she recorded her 217th. Batting lead-off for most of her career, Trionfi is also 1st all-time with 647 at-bats and 50 doubles. Equally effective in the field, Trionfi posted a .937 career fielding percentage with the majority of her attempts coming at shortstop. The Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) honored Trionfi as 1st team All-Conference member in 2016 and 2nd Team All-Conference in 2015 and 2017.
Cavanagh believes a familiar name will enable a smooth transition for the players and coaches. "Amy's passion for CUAA and the program is evident and I'm excited to have a familiar face on staff, who had a had a lot of success during her career, and have her share her knowledge with the team on both sides of the game." Trionfi will work with both the offense and defense as well as assist in some of the administrative duties within the program.
"I am excited for the opportunity to help coach at the college level, said Trionfi. "Transitioning from a player to a coach at Concordia has been a blessing and I can't wait to see what our team has in store for the upcoming year."
Mikayla Hilton recently graduated from Lakeland University where she was a four year varsity letter winner and majored in Sports Management with an emphasis in coaching and athletic administration. Hilton's versatility in the in-field allowed Coach Cavanagh to put her at 1st, 3rd, and OF while relying on a consistent presence at the plate. Hilton finished her career with a .324 batting average, 124 career hits, 70 RBI, 75 runs scored, 60 walks, and 31 multi-hit games. Additionally, Hilton ranks 2nd in Lakeland's career record books with 60 walks, 3rd with 27 doubles, and 7th with 124 hits.
"Mikayla is one of the highest IQ players I've ever coached," said Cavanagh. "To have the opportunity to coach her, and now coach with her is something special for me. I look forward to being on the same team again, and am excited to see how she'll lead our program and create a strong offense." Hilton's primary responsibilities will be coaching the offense while also serving as the first base coach.
Hilton will serve as the team's Graduate Assistant while pursuing her Master's degree in Concordia's Organizational Leadership and Administration program. "I have spent the last four years as a player for Coach Cavanagh and it's a dream come true to be able to take that first step into the collegiate coaching world and learn from her. The opportunity to be able to take the knowledge and experience I have for the game and be able to pass that along to others is so exciting. I have spent many years learning and growing as a player and individual, now it's my turn to help others develop and learn to become the best student, athlete, and person that they can be."
