(Ann Arbor, MI) The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced the 2016-17 men's At-Large sports All-District teams and Joel Werner was selected as a member of the 1st District Team. Joel was voted in by Sports Information Directors from District 1 that includes 21 states as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The at-large division features 16 sports competing throughout the winter and spring seasons.
Werner was on the first roster for the men's tennis team after the program was reinstated to CUAA's athletic department in 2015. Werner has been an integral part of helping build the program and continued growth over the last two years. Concordia's mission is to prepare students for service to Christ in the church and in the world. Werner epitomizes Concordia's mission as a student in the prestigious Pre-Seminary program with the goal of becoming a Lutheran Pastor. Werner is on the Student-Athlete Leadership Team as well as a member of the Pre-Sem Club. The WHAC recently named Werner to the WHAC Champions of Character Team while also being tabbed All-Academic with a 3.94 cumulative GPA.
Werner is the ninth Cardinal to be recognized on the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team. By being selected to the all-district team, Werner will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot where three teams will be selected. Current Cardinals Hunter Cox (Football), Rachel Hay (Women's Soccer), and Kari Borowiak (Women's Basketball) received All-America honors this year. The nine All-District and three All-America members are the most in an academic calendar year for the Concordia athletic department
