(Augusta, MI) The 2016-17 season came to a close for Concordia men's golf yesterday with the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference Championship. The team finished the season strong breaking several CUAA records in the two-day event.
The tournament was hosted at the Stonehedge Golf Club (North), a course the Cardinals had previously golfed a 335 just 10 days before. Andrew Koerkel (JR/Grand Blanc, MI), Nolan Lane (JR/Pinckney, MI), Brayden Bennett (SR/Battle Creek, MI), Chance McKay, and Devyn Miller (FR) topped that number each time combining for rounds of 328, 307, and 319. Both the 307 shot on Monday afternoon and the 3-round total of 954 set new program records.
Individually, three Cardinals topped the previous 3-round low score of 248. Koerkel led the way in 31st place with a 231 behind identical marks of 75 in the second and third rounds. Lane tied Joe Pagliaro's 2005 single-round record of 73 in the second time out and finished at 237. Bennett will settle into third place on the all-time board with a 243 after consistent 82, 81, 80 tournament.
The conference has honored Brayden Bennett, Mike Blosser (SR/Flat Rock, MI), Andrew Koerkel, and Nolan Lane on the All-Academic team for maintaining at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average with a junior or higher standing. Devyn Miller was selected to represent Concordia on the Champions of Character team for his commitment to the five core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
