Sophomore Brian Kressbach
(October 16, 2007 - Grand Rapids, Mich.) -- The Concordia men's soccer team traveled to Aquinas in search of their first win of the season. Unfortunately, the Saints struck in the game's seventh minute and never looked back. The Cardinals were only able to generate three shots on goal and they fell by a score of 4-0.
When the Concordia Cardinals (0-14, 0-11 WHAC) and Aquinas Saints squared off earlier in the season Concordia jumped out to a one goal lead before falling 6-1. Today it was the Saints who scored in the first ten minutes and they never allowed Concordia in the game. Aquinas struck again in the 18th minute and took a two goal lead into the half.
The Saints (11-4, 6-3-1 WHAC) would add two more goals in the second half and held on for the 4-0 win. While the Cardinals took ten shots including six by sophomore Erik Schultz (Bath, MI) they could only put three shots on the Aquinas goal. The Saints on the other hand had no shortage of offense as they took a remarkable 42 shots. Cardinal goalkeeper Brian Kressbach (So., Clinton Township, MI) did all he could with 19 saves but it was not enough to pull out a win on Tuesday.
While the Cards have shown improvement and potential this season they could not muster much offense in Tuesday's contest with the Saints. Concordia will attempt to break into the win column once again when they travel to Ft. Wayne, Indiana to take on Indiana Tech on Saturday October 20. The Cards fell 3-0 when the two teams met in Ann Arbor earlier in the season.
