(Augusta, MI) The Concordia women's golf team completed their 2016-2017 season Saturday afternoon at the WHAC Championship. Lawrence Technological University hosted the championship at Stonehedge Gull Lake View Golf Club and Resort in Augusta, MI. Alex Homann (FR/South Bend, IN) led the Cardinals with a three day total of 262 placing her tied for 30th overall. The team finished 9th overall (1222) ahead of Cornerstone (1342).
Alex fired an 86 during the first rounds after shooting a 90 in round two. Senior Captain Daniela Perez (JR/Belleville, MI) displayed steady improvement during the three rounds as her best score of 91 (+81 overall) came in the third round. Perez was also named the team's recipient of the WHAC Champions of Character Award. Rebecca Johnstone (FR/Warren) (+97) and Kallista Orange (FR/Grand Rapids, MI) (+134) finished 3 and 4 for the Cardinals.
Head Coach Stephanie Squires was pleased with the team's performance. "I am proud of these players and their mental toughness throughout the entire season. To see these last two days with three rounds of combined team scoring all beat our previous rounds is truly remarkable. The girls came to practice with the right attitude every day and this last tournament showed their persistence to the game."
Indiana Tech took home the team honors with a +53 total and will represent the WHAC at the National Championships. The Warriors defeated the University of Northwestern Ohio (61) by 8 with Lawrence Technological University (+69) finishing in third after leading in round 1.
Courtney Dye from Indiana Tech received the individual low honor as the only player to record a sub par score (-1).
