(Kansas City, MO) The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released the weekly Baseball Top 25 Coaches' Poll on Tuesday afternoon and the Cardinals were represented with 4 votes. This recognition on the national level comes in the midst of an eight game win streak and on the heels of a weekend sweep of Marygrove College. Cardinals also earned their 30th win of the season which is the second consecutive season under third year Head Coach Zach Johnston.
The Cardinals currently hold a 30-7 mark giving them the 8th highest winning percentage among all NAIA teams. The 13-4 conference (WHAC) record finds the Cardinals in 3rd behind nationally ranked #13 University Northwestern Ohio and #19 Indiana Tech.
Statistically, the Cardinals continue to remain among the nation's elite in several categories. The Cardinals rank 2nd in the NAIA in Assists per game with 11, 4th with 410 total assists, and a team earned run average of 3.05 which places them 6th. In the top 20, the Cardinals rank 13th in total chances (1350), 15th in total runs scored (288), and 19th for chances per game (36.486). Fifteen other categories have the Cardinals in the top 50 among NAIA teams.
The Cardinals will have two opportunities to increase their national ranking before the next coaches' poll April 18th. Madonna will visit Ann Arbor this weekend (April 8th and 9th) for a three game series. The Crusaders are 19-11 overall and sit a half game behind the Cardinals with a 12-4 record. On April 13th and 15th the Cardinals will travel to Sylvania, OH for a three game series against Lourdes University.
Faulkner (Ala) owns the No. 1 ranking for the 13th time in program history and their-straight time this season. In addition to Cardinals opponents UNOH and Indiana Tech that are ranked in the top 25, the Cardinals also faced #3 Southeastern.
