(Ann Arbor, MI) The offense exploded this weekend for Concordia baseball who went 4-0 in matchups against Purdue Northwest and Viterbo. Blaine Milheim (SO/Eaton Rapids, MI) led the way from cleanup and has been named the Player of the Week in the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference for the first time in his career.
The sophomore recorded at least a hit in every game going a total 8-13 with five doubles. Milheim knocked in eight runs and scored another 10 himself to account for 18 of the Cardinals 58 runs. He also went a perfect 3-3 stealing bases and leads the team with nine this season.
Milheim has started all 20 of Concordia's games and has a team-high .455 batting average in 66 at-bats. His 12 doubles are twice as many as he had last year as a freshman and the fourth most in the NAIA. The Eaton Rapids, Michigan native also ranks fifth in the nation with 31 runs scored.
At 17-4 the Cardinals are off to their best start in recent history. They hope to add to their six-game winning streak this Saturday morning when they kick off a trip south with a double-header against Trinity Christian College in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.
