(Detroit, MI) The defense shined for Concordia women's basketball in Wednesday's Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference game at Marygrove College. The Cardinals held Marygrove to 15 points in the second half and 39 total in a 29-point win.
Concordia limited the Mustangs to 25% shooting and allowed them to make just 1 of 22 (4.5%) from three-point range. Offensively, Concordia shot a consistent 37.7% and were led by Brianna Rowe (JR/Southfield, MI)'s 4-10 three-point shooting for 14 points.
The junior got it going early and hit two straight from deep to give the Cardinals an 8-6 lead. The team never looked back and stayed on top for the rest of the contest with Rowe's third triple increasing the margin to 10 at the 8:35 mark of the second quarter.
CUAA came back from the break to have their best quarter as they gave up just three field goals. Just over three minutes in, Mia Long (FR/Ann Arbor, MI) forced a steal and then found Zhana Randolph (SR/Waterford, MI) for a layup to extend the lead to 47-26. Randolph finished with a dozen points and Long had two steals and four assists to help lead the team to victory.
Now 10-9 and in a four-way tie for fourth in the WHAC, the Cardinals will look to carry the momentum into Saturday's 1:00 p.m. home game against Aquinas College. Seniors Zhana Randolph and Kasey Lowney (SR/Novi, MI) will be honored in a special ceremony during halftime of the men's contest with the Saints.
