(May 23, 2007 - Ann Arbor, Mich.) -- The Concordia Cardinals women's basketball program added some experience to this year's recruiting class with the addition of Betsey Dennis of Kalamazoo Valley Community College and Saint Clair County Community College's Courtney Willis.

Betsey Dennis, a 5-9 guard, played the last two years for Coach Ron Welch at national power KVCC after a standout prep carerr at Charlevoix High School.

 

Dennis, before suffering an injury late in her sophomore season at KVCC, averaged 6.9 points per game while shooting 39 percent from the field (including 38 percent from behind the three-point line).

 

"Betsey is going to make our offense much more explosive," said Concordia Head Coach Joshua Steffen. "She is an unbelievable outside shooter and a threat whenever she is on the floor. Coach Welch has not onle has a strong history of winning, but also sending his players to teams where they contribute and help the program. I want to thank him and the Dennis family for sending Betsey to Concordia."

 

Courtney Willis, also a 5-9 guard, was a high school star at Carsonville-Port Sanilac High School before moving on to play her first two years of collegiate basketball for the Lady Skippers of SC4.

 

"Courtney is really a great addition for us," said Steffen. "She is a tough, smart player and a relentless competitor. Courtney will add depth to our backcourt and I definitely expect her to contribute to our team in many different ways."

 

Willis was an Honorable Mention selection to the All-MCCAA team this season and also served as a captain for the Lady Skippers. Willis averaged 5.9 points per game while grabbing 5.4 rebounds each night.

 

"Courtney does everything well on the floor and she brings two years of very successful college experience to our team," added Steffen. "I definitely want to thank her family and Coach Lohr for sending her to Concordia."
