(Seward, NE) – The Concordia Cardinals (18-4) kicked off their CIT performance today with a win over Concordia Wisconsin (13-6), beating the Falcons 74-52. With this victory, the Cardinal's head coach, Andrea Gorski, acquires her 96th career win, tying the school record for wins in a career for women's basketball, set by Hall of Fame coach Walt Harting.
Cardinal player Hannah Sabol also had a record breaking day, collecting her sixth double-double of the year and becoming the second player in the history of Concordia Ann Arbor to amount 1,500 points and 1,000 rebounds during a career.
Sabol's efforts helped the Cardinals jump out to a strong start in their first game, which they lead from the onset. Abbey Hengesbach's 16-point performance in the first half helped the red and black put pressure on their opponent, boasting as much as a 10-point advantage during the first 20 minutes of play. But the Falcons battled back, bringing the score to within four as the teams departed for the halftime intermission.
After the break, things worsened for Wisconsin as Sabol and company continued their assault, amassing a huge lead and outrebounding the Falcons 22-14. When it was all said and done, Abbey Hengesbach would walk away with 22 total points, while her teammate Hannah Sabol finished the day with a hefty 20 points and 10 rebounds.
