(Ann Arbor, MI)- The Concordia Women's Basketball team won their fifth straight game and their 19th of the season when they beat University of Michigan-Dearborn on Wednesday night. The Cards came out a little slow against the Wolves but in the end came up with the victory without too much stress.
In the first half the Cardinals trailed for the first five minutes of the game but once they took the lead at the 15 minute mark they never gave it up. The Cardinals went into half time with a 35-22 lead and would end up beating UofM Dearborn 66-50. Leading the way for the Lady Cards was Brittany "Fade Away" Simmons with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Marion "the Jet" Rodriguez contributed with 11 points and 5 rebounds of her own. Brittany Gibson, who was the Freshman of the Year in the GLIAC last season, had an all-around solid performance for the Cards as she dished out 5 assists, scored 5 points, and grabbed 8 rebounds.

The Lady Cards are now 19-3 overall and 10-2 in the WHAC. They hold soul position of 2nd place in the WHAC with Siena Heights and Cornerstone sitting 2.5 games behind them. The Cardinals are on the road this weekend for the 61st annual Concordia Invitational Tournament. The Cards are the reigning CIT champs and will to defend their title this weekend. The Cardinals will first face off against the host Concordia Chicago on Friday at 6pm CST. The other Concordia teams in the tournament are Concordia Wisconsin and Concordia Nebraska. Concordia Nebraska is currently ranked #5 in NAIA DII, one spot above the Cardinals who sit at #6.
