(Milligan, TN) - The Concordia Baseball team headed to Tennessee this past weekend to kick off their 2012 season against Milligan College. The Cardinals first two games were underneath the lights as game one start time was 7pm. The Cards scuffled in these first two-game set against the Buffaloes Friday Night, managing 4 runs on 4 hits under the lights. Concordia gave way to the Buffaloes falling 10-1. Senior, Jim Rousseau pitched 3 innings and received the loss for the Cards, while Fleenor threw a complete game for Milligan and got the win. The Buffaloes came out on top in game two after a few errors from the Cardinals' defense in a 10-3 decision.

Concordia turned in a much better performance during Saturday's double header as they cashed in 10 runs on 11 hits in the first game, 3 of which came on a 3-run home run by sophomore, Chandler Sidwell. Garrett Keeler turned in a solid start, giving up 3 runs on 3 hits in 4 innings to gain his first victory of the season. Milligan's starter, Walker was charged with the loss as the Buffaloes only managed 4 runs of support. The Cards would roll 10-4. The final game of the weekend proved to be the most dramatic. Concordia started off the game with a run in the top of the first, but Milligan answered back with one of their own in the bottom half of the inning. The Cardinals got the bats working again in the third, loading the bases with nobody out and cashing in one run on a 6-4-3 double play before a 2-out double from Jared Janssen score the second. The Buffaloes answered back again in the home half of the inning with two more runs. Concordia led 7-3 going into the bottom half of sixth, but Milligan managed to score 4 runs on 4 hits to tie the game. Cardinal closer, Ryan Noack came in to pitch in the sixth and would stay on the mound until the tenth inning, when a bases loaded single would end the game in favor of Milligan. Despite a heart breaking 7-8 loss Noack turned in a solid performance for the Cards pitching 4 innings in relief, giving up just the 1 run and striking out 6.

The Cardinals will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Owensboro, KY to face off against Brescia College. The Cards will play a double header on Saturday, Feb. 25th starting at 2pm and then again on Sunday, Feb. 26th with the first game starting at noon. Good Luck Cards.

(Grand Rapids, MI) - The Cardinal Men's Basketball team made the trip out to Grand Rapids on Saturday for a conference matchup against Aquinas College. The Cards were facing a tough opponent in the 3rd-place Saints, but were ready to put up a fight. Despite the strong effort, the Cardinals would fall just short 51-54.

The game was a low scoring game, as neither team could seem to find their range. The Cards shot just 26% from the floor in the first half while Aquinas shot 36% and were 0 for 9 from behind the arc. The Cards kept it close, as Aquinas led for most of the half and went into halftime up by two. Concordia picked up their shooting in the second half, shooting 55% from behind the arc, and led for most of the half. The Cards would go up by 5 with 13 minutes left and would continue to hold that lead until the 4 minute mark when the Saints would tie the game up. The Saints would take the lead just a minute later and hang on as the Cards pulled within 1 three different times but just could not tie the game up again.

The Cardinals would bring a five-point lead into the second half of play before the visitors pulled ahead at the 10 minute mark. The next seven minutes would be an exciting back and forth battle where the lead exchanged four times before the Cardinals outlasted the Racers and won by a score of 71-63.

(Livonia, MI) - The Concordia Women's Basketball team headed out to play conference rival Madonna University this past Saturday for the second time this season. The Lady Cards were coming off of the biggest win in school history against #1 Davenport University on Wednesday, and they were looking to keep their momentum going against Madonna.

The Cards didn't have a particularly good start, as they committed 12 turnovers and lost the battle on the boards in the first half. However, they still only found themselves facing a 4-point deficit at the break. The Cardinals knew this was not a game they could let slip away so the second half was much different than first. The Cardinals only committed 2 turnovers and forced Madonna to commit 14 of their own. The Cardinals also won the rebound battle in the second half which essentially led them to a 68-59 win over the Crusaders. This was another big win for the Cards as it is always difficult to play a conference foe on their home court. Moreover, on top of Madonna being a difficult road game Head Coach Andrea Gorski had not been able to sweep the Crusaders or win at their place in her previous three seasons so this win ended a couple of streaks.

Hannah Sabol led the Lady Cards in scoring with 20pts. Kortni Elsworth had her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 assists on the game. This is the fourth time this season Elsworth has had double digit assists, and it is the second time this season it's happened against Madonna. The 11 assists for Kortni was a career high. Brittany Gibson also had a solid performance, leading the Cards in rebounds with 9 while scoring 9 points of her own. This is the seventh straight conference win for the Lady Cards, an important stat as they head into the end of their conference season. Their next game will be a big one against the #RV University of Northwestern Ohio. The Racers edged out the Cards in their last meeting, winning 69-63. The game will be at home this time, on February 8th at 5:30 pm. The game is part of a double header with the Cardinals men's basketball team. Come out and cheer on your Cardinals!

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Concordia Men's Basketball team suffered a tough loss to conference rival Madonna University on Saturday. The Cardinals had won the first matchup with the Crusaders earlier in the season, but would fall to 13-13 with the weekend loss, tying Indiana Tech for 5th place in the WHAC. Madonna would collect their 15th victory to bring their overall record to 16-10 and maintain control of 2nd place with a 10-4 conference record.

The Cardinals would struggle through the first half of Saturday's game, failing to match the Crusaders in successful field goal attempts from either side of the arc. 12 turnovers would cause Concordia to relinquish t before their lead at 10-minute mark, and send them into halftime with a six-point deficit. The Cardinals would battle back in the second half and keep the game close, as they exchanged the lead with Madonna seven times. Tension ran high into the last seconds of the game, but despite the Cardinal effort and a significant improvement from the first half of play, the Crusaders would come out on top 69-66.

John Schaeffer and Rocko Holmes both turned in 20 points to be Saturday's leading scorers. The Cardinals will look to rebound as they take on the University of Northwestern Ohio in their next game at home on Wednesday, February 8. The game is part of a double header with the Cardinals women's basketball team. The Lady Cards will play at 5:30pm with the men's game following shortly after.

At the top of the list was the 4x200 meter relay team which took 3rd place and broke the school record in the process. Also competing in the 200 meter were Buchanan, Walton, and Xaver, with Buchanan leading the way taking 4th place, running a time of 23.06. Montgomery stated that "there were several teams from our Conference here today and Martell was right there with their sprinters. I think this is a good sign for our upcoming Conference meet." Xaver also competed in the 60 meter hurdles for the Cards, placing 8th, and running his second best time of the season, 9.17.
