(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Concordia Men's Basketball team suffered a tough loss to conference rival Madonna University on Saturday. The Cardinals had won the first matchup with the Crusaders earlier in the season, but would fall to 13-13 with the weekend loss, tying Indiana Tech for 5th place in the WHAC. Madonna would collect their 15th victory to bring their overall record to 16-10 and maintain control of 2nd place with a 10-4 conference record.

The Cardinals would struggle through the first half of Saturday's game, failing to match the Crusaders in successful field goal attempts from either side of the arc. 12 turnovers would cause Concordia to relinquish t before their lead at 10-minute mark, and send them into halftime with a six-point deficit. The Cardinals would battle back in the second half and keep the game close, as they exchanged the lead with Madonna seven times. Tension ran high into the last seconds of the game, but despite the Cardinal effort and a significant improvement from the first half of play, the Crusaders would come out on top 69-66.

CIT Consolation Game

(River Forest, IL) - The Concordia Men's Basketball team claimed their 13th win of the season on Saturday in an overtime victory as they took on the Cougars of Concordia Chicago. The Cardinals would improve their overall record to 13-11 during the consolation game of the CIT, while the hosts of the tournament would fall to a 6-13 season performance.

Saturday's contest between Ann Arbor and Chicago would prove to be a very thrilling seesaw match. The Cougars would trail closely behind the Cardinals for the first ten minutes of play, tying the score five times before taking a lead that would carry them into the second part of the game. Chicago would lead at halftime 40-33, thanks in part to Charles Gordon, who rounded out the first 20 minutes of play with 11 points. The Cougars would add to their seven-point advantage during the first five minutes of the second half, leading by as many as 13 before the Cardinals came marching back. After another three knots in the scoreboard, the two teams would stay within one of each other. Avery would be given two free throws and would make the first. The Cardinals would call a timeout to give Avery a chance to think about his second attempt and it proved to be a good call. The game would be sent into overtime after the Cougars missed the second of their last two free throws at the end of regulation. The Cardinals would strike first during extended play with two made foul shots and refused to give up their lead, eventually going on to win by a score of 80-74.

In the first half these two teams traded blows as neither could pull away from one another. The Cardinals would go into the halftime break leading 27-25. Rocko Holmes led all scorers in the first half with 11 points. The second half was another great half of basketball as these two teams really put on a show. The Concordia Men's Basketball team enjoyed a decisive victory in a rematch against conference opponent Siena Heights this past weekend, improving their overall record to 11-10 and their WHAC record to 7-4. Respectively, Siena Heights would fall to 6-16, with a 3-7 conference record.

The Cardinals got off to a slow start against the Saints on Saturday, missing their first five field goal attempts to fall behind quickly 7-0. After an early timeout to regroup, Concordia held Siena Heights to a modest lead, never falling more than 8 points behind in the first half and battled to claim a 15-point lead that would carry them into the second part of the game. In the second half, the Saints would only ever cut that lead to 13. A 10-point run before the 10-minute mark would hurdle the home team to a 26-point advantage that would prove too difficult for Siena to overcome. The Cardinals bested the Saints 93-70 and took solitary possession of third place in the WHAC, just ahead of the 6-4 Crusaders from Madonna University.

Rocko Holmes was the weekend's top performer recording his sixth double double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds. John Schaeffer sunk five 3-pointers to finish with 17 overall points, while Andrew Patrick contributed 12 points to the Concordia victory. The Cardinals will take on U of M Dearborn this coming Wednesday before heading to Chicago next weekend for the annual Concordia Invitational Tournament (CIT). Good Luck Cards.

Concordia enjoyed a 13-point lead to start the second half of play, but Indiana Tech wasted no time mounting a comeback. The Warriors would quickly pull to within 1 point of the Cardinals during a 9-point run and took their first lead of the game during the 13th minute of the second half. Concordia would trail by as many as 5 points after relinquishing their lead but they would take it back for good during the last five minutes, eventually defeating the Warriors 71-66.

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Concordia Men's Basketball team hosted Aquinas College on Wednesday for a conference game. The Cardinals game into the game in 2nd place in the WHAC with a 5-2 record. They were also looking to continue their 3-game conference win streak. Aquinas sat right behind the Cards with a 4-2 record in the WHAC.

The Saints would take an early lead in the game but the Cards would come storming back in the last ten minutes of the half to lead at half time 31-24. Concordia, who has typically been a good second-half team this season, got off to a good start and look to have this one in the books early. The Cards were up 21 points with 13 minutes left to go in the game but the Saints would come storming back. Aquinas when on a 15-0 run before Concordia would hit a bucket. Unfortunately for the Cards, Aquinas would then go on an 11-0 run to put the Saints up by 3 with 2 minutes left. A big bucket buy Holmes and then an outstanding block by senior forward Jeremy Simmons on the other end of the floor, would give the Cardinals the ball, down by 1, with the last shot in their hands. However, that shot would never go up as the Saints' Joe Powers would come up with a steal and would go all the way down the floor making a bucket and getting fouled to put the Saints up for good. The final score would read 52-58 in favor of the Saints.

Rocko Holmes led the Cardinals in scoring with 27 points and in rebounding with 8 boards. Aaron Olsen would put up 7 points and grab 3 rebounds for the Cards. The boys will look to bounce back when they head out to Cornerstone University on January 14th, at 3:00pm. Good luck Cards!
