(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Lady Cards wrapped up their 2011 season this past Wednesday with their first playoff game at Siena Heights University. Needing a win to advance, the Cards came out strong against the second-place team in the WHAC. Concordia was on defense for most of the first half, taking 24 shots from the Saints. The Cardinal defense, led by senior Maggie Harris, did well to prevent any serious threats to their goal. Keeper Ryan Elequin was solid in the first half, saving all 9 shots on goal from the Saints. Halftime would come with nothing to separate the teams.

The second half was much like the first, with the Lady Cards holding up against the Saint attack. The tie was broken in the 70th minute, when Siena Heights scored the first goal of the match. The Saints would extend their lead 9 minutes later, making the score 2-0. The Cards would manage to get some offense going in the second half, but could not come back from the 2 goal deficit. The Cardinals will begin offseason training here shortly and will be hot on the recruit trail in the upcoming months in order to continue building the program.

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Concordia Women's Soccer team reached the middle of their regular season with a conference match against Aquinas College and a non-conference game against Rochester College. The Cards would suffer a 4-1 loss in their conference match with Aquinas. Concordia came out strong against the first-place Aquinas team but the Saints would score in the 31st and 32nd minutes, taking a 2-0 lead. This would be the score as the teams headed into the halftime break. The Lady Cards looked much better after the break, holding off the Aquinas attack for most of the second half. Things started to get interesting in the 85th minute when Aquinas extended their lead to 3. But just 12 seconds later, Laura Beth Johnston answered with a goal off of a great assist from Paige Beracy. This goal sparked some hope in the Cardinal offense, but Aquinas would score the final goal of the game in the 89th minute.

After recovering from the tough loss, the Cards headed out to Rochester to find a better result. Much of the first half was played on Concordia's side but the defense, led by Maggie Harris, did well stopping any potential scoring chances. The teams would go into halftime tied at 0. The second half was much more balanced, with the Cards on the attack. Despite the many opportunities on goal, there was nothing to separate the teams in the second half, and they headed into overtime. The first OT would again not separate the two teams so it came down to the 2nd and final overtime. The score would remain level through extra time and the game would end at 0-0. Ryan Elequin did well in net with 9 saves and 0 goals allowed. Overall, the Cards displayed great conditioning and hard work in playing 110 minutes with no substitutes. The Lady Cards will play at Davenport University this Saturday, October 15th at 12:00 noon. Good luck Ladies!

(Wixom, MI) - The Concordia Women's Soccer Team played its second conference game on Wednesday against Madonna University. The game was played at Total Sports Complex in Wixom, MI due to field construction at Madonna. The Crusaders came out quickly, putting the ball in the back of the net twice in the opening three minutes. Facing a 2-0 deficit, the Lady Cards came alive and started playing their game. The Cardinals managed to hold off the Madonna attack for the rest of the first half, and put 6 shots on goal themselves. The Cards played well to start the second half, but let up another goal in the 61st minute. Then, in the 71st minute, Madonna netted a rebound off of keeper Ryan Elequin for the final goal of the match. The game would end at 4-0 in favor of the Crusaders. The Lady Cards will try to forget about this loss as they head into their next conference match and progress further into their regular season.

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Lady Cards began their conference matches this past Saturday against Indiana Institute of Technology. The Cards were ready to start their season on a good note scoring early when Monica Palushaj scored off of a great pass from Paige Beracy in just the 4th minute of the game. The Cards held onto their lead until halftime, thanks to keeper Ryan Elequin, who had 12 saves in just the first half of play. The Cards didn't let up after the break, shutting down the Tech offense and getting a few chances of their own. However, things started to shift for the Cardinals in the 76th minute, when Indiana Tech tied the score at 1. This goal drastically shifted the momentum in the match, and the Warriors took the lead two minutes later. In the 85th minute, Tech put away their third goal to clinch the victory at 3 goals to 1. Despite the loss, the Lady Cards can take away many positive notes from this game as they prepare for their next match against conference rival Madonna University. The Cards will face off against the Crusaders on October 5th at 3:00pm. The match is currently set to be played at Total Sports Complex in Wixom, MI. Go Cards!

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Lady Cards played their final game before conference play starts this past Tuesday against Cornerstone University. Cornerstone is in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference but the match was not considered a conference game because the two teams will meet again later this season. The Lady Cards were looking for a solid performance before heading into conference play and they did play well against a very tough opponent. The two teams traded attacks for most of the first half, until the 41st minute when Cornerstone opened the scoring. The Cards were quick to react, however, when Paige Beracy tied the game in the 44th minute. This is Beracy's fifth goal of the season which gives her an average of a goal per game so far this season. The teams would go into halftime tied at one goal apiece.

The Golden Eagles struck early in the second half, taking the lead in the 47th minute. They would extend their lead just four minutes later, making the score 3-1. The Lady Cards tightened their defense after this, but could not manage any more goals and the match would end at 3-1 in favor of Cornerstone. Maggie Harris and Kelsie Kaisier were strong in the back for Concordia. The Lady Cards will kick off their conference play this Saturday with a home match at 12:00pm against Indiana Institute of Technology. Good luck ladies!

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Concordia Women's Soccer team traveled to Marygrove College this past Saturday for their second meeting of the season. With the last match ending in a 2-0 loss, the Cardinals were looking for a much better result this time around. They came out playing extremely hard against the Mustangs, and ended the first half tied at 0. In the second half, the two teams traded chances, but neither could manage to go ahead. They headed into overtime, and the teams remained deadlocked, forcing the game into one more period of sudden death. In the end nothing would separate the two teams and the game ended in a 0-0 tie. Freshman keeper Ryan Elequin was key in the match, making 7 saves. Megan Boulard made an appearance in net, making a save of her own. Paige Beracy and Monica Palushaj led the attack for the Cards. The Lady Cards will play their next match at home against the University of Michigan-Dearborn on September 14th at 4:00 pm. Because the Wolves are still considered a club team the match will be counted as a scrimmage.  Good Luck Ladies!

CUAA 5, Holy Cross 2

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Concordia Women's Soccer Team was in top form when they faced off against Holy Cross this past Friday. Despite playing a game the day before, the Lady Cards looked fresh and ready to go. Erika Eneix scored her first goal of the season with assists from Laura Beth Johnston and Paige Beracy to give the Cards an early lead. They didn't waste any time adding to their lead when Laura Beth Johnston scored a goal of her own just a minute later, assisted by Paige Beracy and Monica Palushaj. Johnston was on fire, scoring again 6 minutes later to make the score 3-0 going into halftime. The second half was a little more challenging for the Lady Cards. Holy Cross scored two goals in an effort to make a comeback, but the unrelenting Cardinal offense answered with two goals of their own thanks to Paige Beracy, scoring in the 62nd and 69th minutes. This game was all about offense for the Lady Cards, with 20 shots on goal as a team. The ladies will hope for a similar result when they head to Marygrove on September 10th for their next match. (Ann Arbor, MI) - When our Lady Cards suited up to play against Rochester College on Thursday, they had no idea that they were in for one of the most exciting finishes in years. Rochester opened the scoring early, putting the ball in the net after only ten minutes of play. Rochester held their lead into the halftime break, but the Lady Cards weren't ready to give up. Momentum started to shift when Cardinal Sophomore Paige Beracy scored in the 55th minute with the assist from Erika Eneix and then again in the 60th minute with assists from Erica Eneix and Megan Boulard, making the score 2-1.

The Concordia Women's Soccer Team played their first home match this past Wednesday, but they didn't get the result that they were hoping for. The Lady Cards looked good, but the Marygrove squad proved to be too much to handle at this point in the season. Concordia put up a good fight, however, and there were some brilliant moments in the match. In the end it came down to a few simple mistakes that made the difference.

The Marygrove Mustangs opened the scoring early with a goal in the first five minutes of the game. The Lady Cards recovered quickly though, holding off the Mustang attack for the remainder of the first half, and getting a few chances of their own. Paige Beracy and Monica Palushaj both had two shots-on-goal but just couldn't find the back of the net. Marygrove struck again in the 72nd minute, making the score 2-0, and that's how the game would end. Freshman Ryan Elequin was impressive in net, taking on 30 shots and only allowing two goals.
