(Angola, IN) - The Women's Indoor Track and Field team competed at the WHAC Conference Championship Meet on Saturday. The meet was held at Trine University in Angola, Indiana. The Lady Cards top performer was, freshmen, Michele LaGrand. LaGrand ranPRs (personal records) in both the 60 meter and 200 meter dashes, as well as breaking her previously held school records in both events. Her 60 meter time was 8.04. In the 200 meter she shattered her old record by almost 4 tenths of a second, which is huge in the 200, running a 26.65. "Michele was a powerhouse today," said Coach Steve Montgomery. "She came out of the starting blocks really strong in the 200 and never backed down. "Her 60 got off to a bit of a shaky start, but she persevered and ran an excellent time," he added.
 
Also competing in the 60 meter and 200 meter was junior, Brenda Hawkins, who, like LaGrand ran PRs in both events. "Brenda has been improving with every race she runs," said Montgomery. "I'm looking forward to see what she can do as we go forward into Outdoor Track Season," he added.
 
Competing in the distance events were senior, Maggie Harris, sophomore, Molly Rathje, and freshmen, Leigh McRobbie. Freshmen, Joy Orr competed in the 400 meter.
 
Harris and Hawkins were both named to the All-Academic Team, while LaGrand was named to the Champions-of-Character Team. "I am very proud of these ladies for their academic achievements as well as their contributions toward the fine character this team possesses," Montgomery stated.
 
With the Indoor Track Season now concluded, the team is looking forward to Outdoor Track Season, with the first meet on March 31, 2012, at University of Toledo.

(Angola, IN) - This past Friday, the Women's Indoor Track and Field team traveled to Trine University in Indiana for the Trine Invitational. The Lady Cards top performance for the day was turned in by freshmen, Michele LaGrand. LaGrand placed 5th in the 60 meter dash, breaking her own school record, running a time of 8.06. She then ran in the 200 meter dash, placing 3rd, breaking her other school record, running a time of 27:03. Head Coach Steve Montgomery said that "Michele had an outstanding day today. She has been working hard at practice, and it is paying off for her. I think she is poised to have an excellent performance at our Conference Meet in two weeks."
 
Also running in the 60 and the 200 meter was junior, Brenda Hawkins, while freshmen Joy Orr ran the 200 and the 400 meter. "Our sprinters have all been doing a good job at practice and are continuing to improve," Montgomery said.
 
Competing in the 800 meter and the mile were sophomore, Molly Rathje and senior, Maggie Harris. This was Rathje's first meet back from injury.
 
"Our team is small, but we have a lot of heart, and we're not afraid to work hard and have some fun," said Coach Montgomery.
 
The Cardinals next meet is their last and biggest meet of the season, the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Meet. The meet is schedule to take place in two weeks on February 18th, back at Trine University. Good Luck Cards

(Saginaw, MI) - The Concordia Women's Track and Field team traveled to Saginaw Valley State University on Friday for the Doug Hanson Open. This was the Cardinals second meet of the season.
 
The Lady Cards were led by freshmen, Michele LaGrand. LaGrand competed in the 60 meter dash, placing 7th, with a time of 8.33. She also competed in the 200 meter dash, placing 3rd and breaking her own school record in the process with a time of 27.96. "Michele raced well in both the 60 and the 200 meter today," said Head Coach Steve Montgomery. "Her 60 time was a little off today but still good, but her 200 time is definitely going in the right direction," he said. "I expect her times to continue to fall as the season progresses," he added.
 
Also competing in the 60 and 200 meter dashes was junior Brenda Hawkins, running in her first ever official track meet. "Brenda comes to us from the volleyball team, so track is new for her. She is a hard worker and has tons of room for improvement," Coach Montgomery said. "I am pleased with how she ran today," he added.
 
Running in the distance events were freshmen Leigh McRobbie and senior Maggie Harris, while freshmen Joy Orr ran in the 400 and 200 meter dashes.

(Findlay, OH) - The Women's Track and Field Team opened their 2011-12 season Saturday at the Oiler Open in Findlay, Ohio.
 
The team was led by freshmen, Michelle LaGrand who turned in an outstanding performance. Michele broke school records in both the 60 meter and 200 meter dashes. She ran an 8.25 in the 60 meter and a 28.0 in the 200 meter. "I was pretty confident that those school records were going to fall today, because I know what a talented runner Michelle is," said Head Coach Steve Montgomery. "I knew she just had to go out there and run what she is capable of running. Michelle is a very hard worker, and I am sure those records will fall again in the future," he added.
 
A school record was also broken in the shot put by freshmen, Kaitlyn McNight, who threw a 33'6" shot put. "Kaitlyn is a very strong thrower. Breaking the school record in the first meet of the season is awesome" said Coach Montgomery. "I see good things in her future," he added.
 
Running in the 300 meter was freshmen, Joy Orr, establishing a first ever school record in that event, running a 50.52. "It was a solid start to the season for Joy," Coach Montgomery said.
 
Running in the middle distance events were sophomore Molly Rathje, freshmen Leigh McRobbie and senior Maggie Harris.  McRobbie and Harris both newcomers to track, both ran PR's (personal records) in the 800 meter, running 2:57.1 and 2:57.9 respectively.
 
"Overall I would say that we had a good start to our indoor track season," Montgomery said, "I'm very pleased."

(Saturday January 29th, Bowling Green, OH) - The Cardinals women's track team competed at Bowling Green State University in Ohio on Saturday, January 29th.  Freshman, Molly Rathje competed in the mile run, finishing the event in a time of 6:19.9.  Rathje also competed in the 800 meter, running a time of 2:57.3.
 
"Molly really gave it her all in both of her events today," said Coach Steve Montgomery. "We are working on speed endurance at practice, and it's starting to pay off," he added.
 
The Lady Cards next travel to Findley Ohio Friday February 4th for the Findley Open.

(Friday January 21st, Angola, IN) - Friday, January 21 the women's indoor track team competed at Trine University in Angola Indiana. The Lady Cards sole competitor was freshmen, Molly Rathje.  Rathje competed in the mile run, running a time of 6:17.31.
 
"Molly had a huge improvement this week in her mile," said Coach Steve Montgomery. "She has been working really hard in practice and we are very happy with her improvement today," he added. 
 
The Cardinals next meet is next Saturday, January 29 at Bowling Green University in Ohio.
